What I Love about the First Page-ish...

What I Love about the First Page-ish of Amy Miles’s FORBIDDEN

1) Setting part of the story in Transylvania is a double-edged sword.  On one hand, bringing up Dracula’s hometown immediately immerses the reader in the location.  On the other hand, people are thinking about Dracula lore alongside your story.  I love that the prologue is set in Transylvania because it’s an indication that the book is going to be entertaining.

2) I love that the book begins in medias res (in the middle of the story).  (Or maybe a little bit after in medias res.)  Though we don’t see the massacre, we see the aftermath and immediately feel for Roseline and her sister.

3) I love how ostentatiously evil Vladimir is.  I get // vibes off of him.
