What I Love about the First Page-ish of Kristy K. James’s THE DADDY PACT

1) Interestingly, the book does not begin with the MOST dramatic scene.  The author could have begun by depicting the crime in question.  Instead, she begins with a highly emotional scene that is based more in character than action.  That choice makes sense in a romance.

2) I like that Bruce has inappropriate thoughts.  There would be no story if he only thought of Jess as a victim.  There are plenty of possibilities for internal conflict because Bruce recognizes that Jess is beautiful and that being attracted to Jess is not the most appropriate thing in the world.  (Crucially, Bruce’s sin is forgivable.)

3) I love that Jess starts out at her very lowest point.  There’s nowhere for her to go but up.  Further, Jess’s low current status allows Bruce to be the one to help her reclaim her life…a condition which is conducive to romance.
