1) When you’re writing a thriller, it’s especially important to think about what information to release and when. The opening of this thriller is delightfully vague. The author suggests a number of questions, but not too many that we’re overwhelmed.
2) The next little chapter begins on the next page and is labeled “current day.” So the killer is waiting for “next year,” which was “one year ago.” The author makes it clear that we’re about due for a killin’!
3) The prose is slow and methodical, which befits the mindset of a serial killer. We must match the prose to the tone of the story and its protagonist or antagonist.
