1) I have zero empirical data on this, but it seems to me as though most books in the romance/women’s fiction genre begin with a focus on the female protagonist. That makes sense; most of the readers of those genres are women. I like that this book starts with a focus on the male protagonist. (And his woman-filled job.)
2) This is an observation: the author does a LOT of choreographing of her characters’ actions. This is neither inherently good or bad. The main point is that actions should contribute to the larger work, lending characterization, or maybe just getting a laugh.
3) I love the name of “Sturgeon Widows Tours.” I had to sit back for a second and think about why I love that name. It’s the meter. The phrase is a 
followed by a 
. Doesn’t it sound musical? Sturgeon Widows Tours…Sturgeon Widows Tours…
