1) Jen starts out at a personal low point, which is very convenient. There’s nowhere to go but up! Best of all, the “no” she receives is not a lasting tragedy; as bad as the situation feels to her, it’s not as though she was in a terrible car crash. (Not yet.)
2) Let’s be honest: this book is a little spicy. That’s why I love how the author characterized Cynthia in a sexualized manner. Why not start the fun as soon as possible? Set the tone?
3) I love that the opening chapter (which will lead to the inciting incident of the story) is predominantly centered on Jen’s professional life. That balance will change once the romance shifts into gear.
